The newly started 49,900-ton methanol dual-fuel tanker is the first project of a domestic environmentally friendly series of tankers. It is propelled in two modes: fuel oil and methanol, and can be switched freely. When using methanol mode, this type of ship can greatly reduce the emission of sulfur-containing gas.
Huang Jun, deputy chief engineer of China Shipbuilding and Shipbuilding International, said: "The methanol ship we currently design has reached the highest standards for nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides, and the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide emissions have been reduced by at least 10%."
At present, methanol can be used in more than 100 ports around the world. Compared with similar alternative products such as liquefied natural gas, it has significant cost and safety advantages and has a large market potential.
