Inhalation of ammonia vapor can cause sneezing and coughing. High concentrations can cause pulmonary edema, laryngospasm and even suffocation. Ammonia vapor can cause eye irritation and cause tearing, conjunctival swelling and temporary blindness. Eye contact with concentrated solutions can cause conjunctival edema, corneal damage, cornea and iris. Slow atrophy, treatment of insect bites or stings with concentrated solutions can cause severe local reactions. Ingestion of concentrated ammonia solution can cause mouth, throat and esophagus pain, coughing, vomiting and shedding, convulsions, esophagus and digestive tract narrowing or perforation, respiratory tract edema and pneumonia.
