Albizia management and maintenance

Sowing and breeding

Albizia julibrissin is often reproduced by sowing. Seeds are collected from September to October. When picking seeds, select pods with full grains and free of diseases and insect pests, dry them and thresh them, and store them in a dry and ventilated place to prevent mold.

Seedlings are grown in spring, soak the seeds for 8-10h before sowing, and then take them out for sowing. Ditch and drill, ditch distance 60cm, cover soil 2-3cm, keep the border soil moist after sowing, and germinate about 10 days. The seed amount for 1h㎡ is about 150kg. After the seedlings emerge, the management work such as weeding, soil loosening and top dressing should be strengthened. Transplant in spring or autumn in the second year, with a plant spacing of 3-5m. For 2-3 years after transplanting, weed the pine nests every spring and autumn to promote growth.

Seed treatment

In March-April of the following year, the seeds can be planted after treatment. Because the seed coat of Albizia julibrissin is hard, in order to make the seeds germinate neatly and unearth quickly, it needs to be soaked in 0.5% potassium permanganate cold aqueous solution for 2 hours 2 weeks before sowing, and then rinse with clean water and soak the seeds in hot water at about 80℃. 30s (the longest can not exceed 1min, otherwise it will affect the germination rate), sowing can be carried out after 24h. Using this method, the germination rate can reach 80%-90%, and the growth after emergence is strong and not easy to get sick.
